Information systems enable people to access the information they need, to collaborate, and to conduct their jobs and personal activities effectively. Information systems are the heart of our internet-based economy. IS professionals design computing systems that provide information to support decision making of individuals and organizations. They serve as the critical link between the technical areas and all other areas of organizations. Information systems are used everywhere, including business, health care, science, government, community and personal life.
As our society becomes more and more dependent upon computers of all shapes and sizes, as computing devices become more pervasive there will be a stable and ongoing need for highly-qualified workers in computing-related disciplines. The IS Department at NJIT offers the following:
The Co-op Path is an available option for all undergraduate degrees! The upper-level classes in several of these degrees can be done online.
The IS Department also offers an undergraduate minor in Information Systems, for students not having a major in the College of Computing Sciences.
Every IS professor will "honorize" his or her course for an NJIT Alfred Dorman Honors College student.
Most NJIT majors can complete 3 credits of their computing GUR using IS 118.
We have several online options for these programs.
As a stepping stone to the full MS degree, you may do a 4-course Graduate Certificate. Then you can apply to the regular MS program in your final semester of classes. All four classes will count fully towards your MS degree. Several certificates are available online.
