Many NJIT degrees will allow you to complete your computing GUR (general university requirement) using IS 118!
IS 118 is a useful and practical general elective for non-majors, as well as a core course in the IS program. This hands-on course focuses on modern industrial-strength software used by professional application developers. You will learn web-focused PHP and VB.net, and be writing and running code during the class. The course will be beneficial to anyone seeking an in-depth understanding of how modern web based applications are built, and be useful for many projects in advanced courses, including Capstone Projects.
PHP is an example of open source development tools that are becoming de facto standards within the development community. Knowledge of such tools will benefit you in subsequent computing-related courses. On the other hand, while a proprietary development tool, VB.Net is extensively used for applications in all environments and its penetration into the development area is quite large and often is the language of choice of many Windows development groups.
Professor Egan is one of our experienced instructors with many years development experience. He designed and often teaches IS 118.
